Deer Hunting Thanksgiving Afternoon

"R" went deer hunting with me last night. No deer. Just saw a bunch of turkeys and a couple of squirrels. Thank goodness for his GameBoy. It kept him somewhat occupied. He doesn't understand the concept of sitting "Still-Like-A-Tree" yet!

This Stinks! Early Winter Slip-Up!

The slippery driveway claimed our truck late this afternoon.

As you can see, one side of our driveway is a ravine.

One wrong move and it will SUCK YOU IN!

There is no pulling out of this without a good tow truck!

As you can see... Jim doesn't look happy!

This a lot of work, the truck was pulled from the cliff!

Meanwhile, "R" took advantage of slidding down the super slick driveway!

Update about Julie

I just got off of the phone with Julie's Grandmother and Julie is not doing well. She has an infection that is affecting her lungs. She is having a hard time breathing. We are all praying for her.

I never get sick of living at Blue Lake. We have some amazing sunrises!

She just can't stand the word... SQUIRREL!

You can't see it or hear it in the photo.... but she wants to chase that squirrel.... BAD!

My Hunting Spot

I thought I'd share little little bit about my day during deer season.

This is a picture of my blind, sitting part way down a nice ridge. There is a cedar swamp at the bottom. Lots of deer are seen in this area.

Here is the view outside of my blind window... looking downhill.

The Scene This Morning

See the snow falling?

The sun was shining and the snow was falling, at the same time.

Our first "STICKING" Snow!

Maybe we'll have some for opening day of deer season? 

It's an upside-down world for this goofy squirrel. I took this photo this morning. We have several squirrels that visit our bird feeder daily. This little guy started to getting a little belligerent with our feeder, shortly after I took this picture. So, I decided to sick the dogs on him. Don't worry. He got away! They always do.

She Needs Your Help

I am posting this on my blog, in hopes that I can help find others who are willing to help Julie. I don't personally know Julie, but I do know her Grandparents, Vince and Pauline Moceri. I have their home listed in Sugar Springs and learned of the plight their grand daughter has been dealing with for over 4 years.

Her Story:

This Michigan native was studying abroad in Australia when she became ill in 2004. Upon returning home, Julie sought the medical advice of numerous physicians across the country. She was finally diagnosed with Gastroparesis, a rare and puzzling disease and Intestinal Dysmotility. Not only is her health deteriorating, but this illness has drastically changed her life. For the past 4 years, Julie has been unable to eat or drink. The PICC line and feeding tube in her abdomen, Julies only sources of nutrition, are extremely expensive and add to the soaring medical expenses she is facing. While Julie' illness has no cure, doctors are confident a transplant will offer her a second chance at life.

Because of the debilitating affects of this disease, she needs a new stomach, large intestine, small intestine and pancreas. This extensive surgery will cost approximately $1 Million Dollars! And that's only the beginning.

UPDATE: I just got off of the phone with Julie's grandmother. Julie had her trasplant surgery. However, she is in intensive care with complications. I will keep updates on this blog.

Blue Lake Swans

Election Day was a fantastic day to be out on Blue Lake!

I took these photos of the Trumpeter Swans at around 8 am Tuesday Morning. There was a light fog over the lake and the sun in the background. It made for a beautiful backdrop. 

It was a picture perfect morning and the swans just added to the beauty of it.

The lake was like a sheet of glass.

Until I had the kids out in the evening. They they made their own waves!

They actually got around the lake quite well. H and I took the kayaks and the boys took the row boat.

It was a beautiful day, reaching into the low 70's that afternoon. You couldn't ask for better weather than this!

The swans were back!

I took these photos Saturday morning while the kids and I were out on the lake in our kayaks. The way the light hits them with the shadows and the sun, they almost look artificial!

The swans followed us around the lake for a while. The trumpeted like bike horns, as they followed us around.

It was a beautiful morning to be out on the lake.
