Space Age Ant Farm!

Aunt Holly got "R" this space age ant farm for Christmas. We had to wait until spring for the ants to arrive in the mail, so they wouldn't freeze during delivery. We've had them for about a week and a half now. This is the work they have done, so far.

Memorial Day SWIM!

These CRAZY kids went swimming on Memorial Day! The air was hot (about 78 degrees), but the water was COLD!

(The next day, it was only about 59 degrees out!)

Memorial Day Parade

It was a lovely day for a parade.

"H" was in the parade, as a Girl Scout. She's somewhere in this crowd.

"R" was also in the parade as a Boy Scout.

Interesting morning

Well... We were on our way down state. We barely got out of Gladwin county and we nailed a deer at 6 am this morning. Almost 1.5 hours later, the police show up. So, we are on the road late.

My boss was kind enough to come out and meet us at the scene of the accident and offered us his car. He will ride back to Gladwin in the tow truck. He has another vehicle he can use at the office.

So, we're back on the road again.

Fawn at Blue Lake (on our property)

A couple days ago, I came home to a pleasant little surprise. This doe was on our lot with a newborn fawn. Shortly after I took this picture, she ran off.

I couldn't resist going over and investigating.
At first the little guy started walking towards me. He saw my movement and must have thought I was his mother. He was "bahing" like a little sheep as he walked towards me. I can imagine that a newborn's eye sight isn't so great, right after they are born.
He kept coming closer.
.... and closer!


After he got within just a few feet of me, he realized that I wasn't his mother! He stopped in his tracks and tried to play "invisable".
Needless to say, I took a bunch of pictures! Who could resist?

This is where I left the little guy. He decided it was okay to snuggle down next to the log. I left and checked back about 1.5 hours later and he was gone. Mom came and took him to a safer location.

I never touched him. When you see a baby deer, it's wise not to get your scent on him/her. In the wild, fawns do not carry any scent. You want to keep it that way, to protect it.

Squirrel Nuts?

Jim Decided to give the squirrels the stale corn nuts that had been sitting in the Jeep since he went ice fishing back in February. Yesterday, the squirrel turned his nose up at them.... then it rained. I guess he likes his corn nuts with a little water.

Mother's Day at Chili's

Yesterday we went to Saginaw and ended up meeting the family at Chili's.

I guess you could say it was Nina's 1st Mother's Day. She's my Neice! She's due for her first baby in August.

And here are the two peas in a pod, sporting their new glasses. "R' lost his last pair, last year. We found them smashed at the bus stop months later. They must have fell out of his bag and got run over a few times. Needless to say, we had to get him a new pair.

Last Wednesday (May 7th) some Girl Scouts adopted part of Highway M-61 to make our town a cleaner place.
